One of Europes finest and largest train musueum is located in Mulhouse, France. Run the by same company that manages the Cité de l’Automobile, the Cité du Train is a must see for any train enthusiast. The museum features a highly realistic presentation of sounds, light, film and images to portray the great moments in the history of the rail system.
Sadly my complete lack of knowledge about trains prevents me from giving this outstanding museum a proper review. Suffice it to say that this was one of the finest train museums I’ve ever visited. Walking into the 65000 square foot show arena is like stepping back into early 19th century Europe. Inside the museum has been deliberately kept dark and uses lights, films, sounds and reconstructions to showcase the different aspects of the history of the train. While the darkened room certainly adds to the ambiance of the museum it was murder on my photography.
