The BMW Art Car Collection, which has been displayed at museums including the Louvre and the Guggenheim Museums in Bilbao and New York, began in 1975, when the French racecar driver and art dealer, Hervé Poulain, persuaded his friend Alexander Calder to paint the BMW 3.0CSL that Mr. Poulain drove at Le Mans.
