The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) was a touring car racing series held in Germany from 1984 – 1996. One of the regulations of touring car racing was that the cars that were entered had to be based on production models. This lead to some great rivalries between the German marques as each company wanted to prove that their production car was not only suitable for road use but could win on the race track.
In the late 80’s as more manufacturers entered the racing series and even former Formula 1 drivers starting racing the DTM championship became the most popular racing series in Europe. Today cars from that era like the BMW E30 M3 or the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5 16V are highly sought after collectables.
Recently the local Mercedes group held a DTM Revival at the famed Hockenheimring, home of the German Grand Prix. Unfortunately the weather was not co-operating and it started to rain but I was able to catch some video and photos before they closed the track.
